Frances B. Seaman

May 18, 2017

Frances B. Seaman, 73, of Clayton passed away at her home on Thursday, May 18, 2017, with her family at her side.

Burial will be in the Old DeKalb Cemetery. There will be no calling hours and arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton. A memorial service will be held at the Alexandria Bay Baptist Church on July 1, at 11 AM.

Frances was born in Herkimer on December 19, 1943, daughter of Charles and Wauletta Spencer Bennett.

Fran was passionate about everything she did. She received a business and accounting degree from Morrisville ATI. On December 28, 1963 she married Lyle W. Seaman at the Methodist Church in Herkimer, and spent the next 20 years actively raising two sons. When they set off for college, she returned to college also and finished her Bachelors degree at SUNY Empire State College, and then her Masters in Elementary Education from SUNY Potsdam. She dedicated the next 15 years of her life to teaching young children how to read. At Guardino Elementary School, Clayton, Fran was a natural and gifted teacher. Her specialty was in Reading Recovery through which she had a huge impact on many children’s lives. Fran loved her Lord and taught Sunday School and many Bible studies. She was a great believer in the power of prayer and spent time praying for her family and friends. To occupy her retirement, Fran was a devoted grandmother and attended as many of her grandchildren’s activities as possible. She shared with them her insatiable curiosity for the world and her love of books.

Along with her husband, Lyle, Frances is survived by her two sons, Lyle W. Seaman III, Pittsburgh, PA and Kevin R. Seaman and his wife, Diane Alderman, Walworth; five grandchildren, Delaney, Brady, Casey, Caleb, and Rebecca Seaman; three brothers, Grover Bennett and wife, Carole, Mohawk, Spencer Bennett and wife, Sharon, Herkimer, and Charles Bennett and wife, Bonnie, Loris, SC; three sisters, Wauletta Krumholtz and husband, Donald, Middle River, MD, Nora Bennett, Clayton, and Sharlene Parr and husband, Bob, Hendersonville, NC; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Frances' name may be made to Alexandria Bay Baptist Church, 41 Bolton Ave., Alexandria Bay, NY 13607, designated to the Lottie Moon Missions Offering. Online condolences to her family may be made at www.cummingsfuneral.com.

I met Fran for the first time when she and Lyle were living in the same mobile home park that my family lived in near Black River, sometime around 1970. A friend of mine and myself used to wander around the park and Fran approached us we passed by and began witnessing to us about Jesus. Being teenagers and not being particularly receptive to the gospel message at that time in our lives we dismissed her. That was, however, one of the earliest times when God began His call on my life. Approximately 2 years later I gave my life to Christ. Thank You, Fran for being a witness. Glory to God.

We just saw this today! The world has lost one of the most wonderful people we have known in our lives. She and Lyle have had such a big impact on our walk with God over the years that it is hard to describe. We will miss you, Fran.....and, Lyle, we pray for God to be your Father closer than you have ever experienced Him before! We love you!

Dear Lyle and family,
May you sense the arms of Jesus around you, comforting you at this sad time, in his special ways. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. (Psalm 115:16) She is with Him forever, waiting for us. I am thankful to have gotten to know dear Fran a little, and I look forward to knowing her more in Heaven - that wonderful land of no more suffering and no more sadness. Much love and prayers to you.

We met Fran Seaman when we pastored Old Stone Church in Depauville. Such an honor to call her my friend. She was a busy mom to Tre and Kevin at the time. Such a happy positive lady and always willing to help wherever needed. She was my friend. Never to be forgotten.
