Michael J. Ransome

Michael J. Ransome, 69, of Lowville and formerly of Watertown, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse.

There will be no services and arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown.

Mike was born in Watertown on March 28, 1948, son of Robert J. and Gertrude E. O'Flarherty Ransome. He graduated from Watertown High School, Class of 1967, and from Marion Military Institute with a degree in Criminal Justice.

On July 21, 1967 he entered the US Navy and was honorably discharged on May 31, 1988 with over 20 years of service to his country. During this time, he was a Federal Police Officer on Ft. Drum for over 10 years. He received numerous Good Conduct Medals and also received the National Defense Sea Service Medal.

Mike was a Roman Catholic. He enjoyed pencil sketching, scuba diving, bowling, baseball, chess, and carpentry in his early years.

He is survived by his wife, Cherie, whom he married on March 24, 1995; his three children, Joseph M. Ransome, Ventura, CA, Swanta A. Young, Albany, and Evelyn M. Hall, Greenville, SC; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; several step children including Marti O'Hara, Watertown; two siblings, Peter A. Ransome and Robin D. Adams, both of Watertown; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with his parents, his sister, Kathryn A. Bennett, predeceased him.
