Shirley I. Platt, 88, of Clayton and formerly of Adams Center, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017, at Hospice of Jefferson County, Watertown.
A calling hour will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, from 9:30 - 10:30AM followed by the funeral service at 11AM at the funeral home with Glenn R. Brown, associate pastor of Airport Christian Fellowship, presiding. Burial will be in the spring in Grove Cemetery, LaFargeville.
She was born in Adams Center on July 12, 1929, daughter of Ernerst A. and Bess Gordinier Cagwin. She graduated from Adams Center High School in 1947 and from the Watertown School of Commerce as a Medical Secretary in 1966. She then graduated from BOCES's Practical Nursing Program in 1989.
On September 2, 1972 she married Harold S. Adams in Watertown with Rev. Miles Hutinson officiating and he died June 27, 1977. Shirley then married William C. Platt, Jr. on June 20, 1994 in Clayton.
She had worked at Fachiney's as a thermometer maker and for Dr. Thomas Hamilton as a medical secretary. Shirley had attended Faith Fellowship, Watertown. She moved to Clayton in 2002.
Shirley is survived by her husband, William C. Platt, Jr., Clayton; son, Danny Adair Adams, Lisbon; three daughters, Sandra Adams, LaFargeville, Kathy Augenstein, Hermosa, CA, and Gunja Nevin, AK; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased her brother, Eldon Cagwin, and three sisters, Beatrice Klock, Dorothy Ross, and Betty Ballard.
