Sylvia R. Carter

March 2, 2019

Sylvia R. CarterSylvia R. Carter, 73, of Clayton passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2019. She was born in the town of Orleans on September 6, 1945, daughter of the late Charles Fred Carter and Dorothy Dodge Carter.

After graduating in 1962 from LaFargeville Central School, Sylvia went on to SUNY Broome to obtain a degree as a dental hygienist. She worked for many years as a hygienist for local schools and later for Dr. Eppolito in Clayton. Sylvia worked many summers at Pine Tree Point in Alex Bay. She loved to read and served on the LaFargeville Library board.

From a young age Sylvia would spend her days outdoors or in the barn caring for animals. She loved being in the garden or planting flowers and turned that passion into a successful greenhouse business that she expanded over the years, working alongside her sister, Jean. Many people would stop to visit with the plant lady and her miniature horses and greenhouse cats. Sylvia had a strong work ethic and helpful spirit. She donated many flowers to local churches and museums. She touched many people's lives and brought much joy to her family, friends and neighbors.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her sisters, Helen Carter Printz and Jean Winn and was pre-deceased in death by her brother, John Carter. Sylvia was blessed with many nieces and a nephew, Barbara McAdoo, Alison Winn, Mary Linn, Carol Curling, Heidi Doolittle, Heather Sboro, Scarlett Bailey, Amber Toney, and Jason Carter and was predeceased by her niece, Crystal Haver. She also had many great nieces and nephews.

As per Sylvia's wishes her family held a private family service. Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service , Inc., Clayton and online condolences to her family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com. All who wish to honor her memory may make a donation to the SPCA of Jefferson County, PO Box 531, Watertown, NY, 13601.
