Nancy Adelaide Marshall Carefoot

March 19, 2019

Nancy Adelaide Marshall Carefoot passed away peacefully at home in the presence of family in Gilbert, Arizona at the age of 70 on March 19, 2019. She will be profoundly missed by the many people who loved her.

Nancy was born the oldest of four children on July 22, 1948 in Clayton, New York to Paul E. and Betty (Grant) Marshall. She attended St. Mary's School and graduated from Clayton Central School in 1966. Traveling with friends to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, she met her future husband, Jim. Jim and Nancy were married in Marquette, Michigan on May 27, 1972 while Jim attended Michigan State University. After Jim graduated in 1974 they relocated to Seattle, Washington, where he worked for Boeing and they settled down to raise their family.

Nancy attended Cedar Park Assembly of God in Bothell, Washington beginning around 1979. She was elected as the church's first female deacon in the '80s. With her dedication to childhood education and the firm encouragement of the Cedar Park pastoral staff, Nancy was ordained as Children's Ministries Pastor. Over her career in ministry, she was invited to present at a number of national Christian education conferences, and her work at Cedar Park included the establishment of many special children's programs and events that continue to this day. In 2001, Jim's work took them to the Phoenix area and Nancy shortly began to serve as pastor to the children of Baseline Christian Fellowship in Mesa, Arizona. She retired in recent years because of her health, though she continued to be as present and involved as she was able.

Nancy's unique gifts for fostering children's spiritual and personal development have influenced countless lives. Her wonderful impact continues to grow exponentially as people who felt her love and guidance during their own childhoods grow to pass these gifts forward to new generations of children. The example she provided of service, creativity and hard work, her willingness to be involved and to do her part, stand as a model for anyone hoping to enrich their own life.

Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Paul E. Marshall, her mother, Betty (Grant) Marshall, her younger brother, Capt. Paul E Marshall Jr., and her first daughter, Elizabeth Carefoot, who lived only briefly after her birth. She is survived by her devoted husband, Jim, her daughter Kate Carefoot, daughter Suzanne (Greg) Hall, son Ian (Nicole) Carefoot, sister Cathy (Russ) Main, sister Martha (Tom) Millett, her beloved Carefoot sisters- and brothers-in-law, and many loving nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Nancy's life will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 10:30 am at Baseline Christian Fellowship, 5525 E Baseline Road, Mesa, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy's memory to Crisis Pregnancy Center of Greater Phoenix. Online condolences to her family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com.
