To the Sherman family,

I offer my deepest condolences to all of you for the loss of your beloved Dan. Wonderful guy and friend - the first friend that I made at my new school (Van Duyn Elem.) as I entered 4th grade. He was a friendly, intelligent guy who was faithful and devoted, especially to his teammates in athletics. His enduring life legacy is shown through the countless students and athletes that he coached and taught through the years - so many went on to successes in academics and sports at Fowler and Corcoran High School and beyond. Hope this gem of a guy rests eternally in heavenly peace.....# Cougarsinheaven

Mr. Sherman was the best teacher, not just a gym teacher. I remember in gymnastics class, I would always doubt myself. Mr. Sherman would encourage me mentally as well as physically to keep trying. Thank you, Mr. Sherman!

My deepest condolences to the family, thank you for such an amazing person.

I was shocked to hear this very sad news. As i write this i am even more saddened since I know that today 7/30) is his birthday. I would always text him to wish him a happy birthday. I am so sorry for your loss. He definitely lived life to its fullest. We lived next door to him and he was alway either going for a run, or picking up or dropping off a student or leaving early to open up the gym at Seymour for his kids. He was a man with a purpose and he lived it well. Keeping you all in our prayers. Please let me know if there is anything i can do besides pray. ❤️ The Bullocks

So at a loss for words as we were just emailing each other about me graduating from welding school back in May! You were more than just a gym teacher to me, more like a father figure. The drive that I have today and the ability to look someone in the eye is all because of you! You couldn’t stress enough how far it would get me in life and every time that moment came, I thought of you! You will forever be missed there’s no doubt about it! As you’d always say “and on the 8th day, Brittini Ray” My condolences to the family of this wonderful guy!

Dan was a neighbor for 25 years and we bought his house 8 years ago. He was so thoughtful and kind and generous. We have a little red wagon that was in the attic that his grandfather built for him and his brother. If the family is interested, I would like to get this to whoever wants it.

I snapped the ball to Dan as he was the quarterback and team leader of the 1973 cougars. Later we both taught PE in the SCSD and lived in the valley where we both grew up. Always class and a joy to be with. A great educator and a class guy. Rest In Peace my friend.
